Young Chicago Authors programs cultivate artistic voice, develop critical thinkers, and empower youth to be civically engaged.
“At Young Chicago Authors people sit, stop and listen when you speak. In this community where you can choose your own name and who you are, I have a chance to create who I want to be.” – 12th Grade, Lane Tech High School.
All programs are FREE, include bus passes and snacks for participants, and can be taken as drop-in classes or on an on-going basis. Workshops are taught by Young Chicago Authors Core Teaching Artists and are appropriate for youth grades 6 – College with varying skill levels—beginner to advanced.
Young Chicago Authors provides a safe space where no racist, sexist, homophobic or anti-group language is allowed.
Above all things YCA is a place where participants can come together, share their art and create bridges across the city.
