About this year's festival, YCA Artistic Director, Kevin Coval, writes:
"For over 17 years, young people in and around Louder Than A Bomb have used the tools of spoken word, hip-hop poetry, and personal narrative to traverse the city in new ways. Collectively, we have worked to de-segregate and dismantle the viaducts and red lines of urban planners and those who wish to keep us separate. We are each other's sanctuary. Here is a space for all stories and all peoples. We are borderless. We are each other's nations. Welcome to Louder Than A Bomb, the 17th annual Chicago Youth Poetry Festival. This year we seek to honor the work and legacy of Miss Gwendolyn Brooks, our matriarch. Chicago was her classroom and her canvas. Her dedication to her craft and to her community is a model for our work in this city and beyond."
