Bisexuality is not a light subject, especially because it has caused much controversy. Bisexuality is a physical and romantic attraction to both women and men. It’s one of three classifications of sexual orientation. Bisexuality is not a fad or a phase. The term bisexuality came about in the nineteenth century. You don’t have to be equally attracted to both genders in order to be bisexual.
It is believed bisexuality is not a third classification and that it’s just a temporary experimental phase between heterosexuality and homosexuality. It’s seen has having “the best of both worlds”. This is thought because one gets to enjoy both genders both sexually, and romantically. It’s also believed that it’s a decision based upon inner feelings.
I agree with that statement completely. One does not choose to be any form of homosexual the same way one does not choose to be heterosexual. Bisexuality is something you grow into the same as if you grow into liking only the opposite sex. Being bisexual is a way of life and it’s the life I proudly embrace. I have many “bisexual” friends that only claim to be bisexual when with a women but when they are with a man they claim to be straight. A select few of friends and I consider ourselves to be bisexual no matter what gender we are with at the moment.
Bisexuality is seen as a fad in some ways due to artists such as Katy Perry with her song “I Kissed a Girl” and Nicki Minaj who was on Usher song “Lil Freak” talking about how minaj wants to take another female to Usher for sexual reasons. Both these female artists are straight. Some girls even do it just for the attention because it’s seen as “hot “and “sexy” for girl on girl action. This is not bisexuality only heterosexuality with experimentation.
Alfred Kinsley and his colleagues established a rating sale made for heterosexuality to homosexuality. Alfred Kinsey was an American biologist and professor of entomology and zoology. The scale was made to show people that they don’t always fall into one sexual orientation or another with a seven-point scale showing different sectors between the two. It is a method of pure evaluation of personal experience. Your thoughts about where you fall onto the scale may vary with time.
Being bisexual I know that I fall onto the scale in between heterosexuality and homosexuality, more so leaning to homosexuality. I don’t see that changing because that’s who I am. I take with much pride and joy that I label myself with a title I understand the terminology behind it. I am aware of the misconceptions that will follow me. I’m okay with being a young bisexual women and letting the world know that I am.
