“Before” by Dayna Johnson

When she used to speak doves flew out her mouth;

She died choking on snow tinged feathers

they came out stained with tears.

These words flutter out the walls like toothy laughter.

Mouth full of yellow teeth an old decaying laugh, the only kind that still finds life funny.

She spoke in flight, wings flaps punctuated her words, cried white blood cells of hope, it was an investment- there can be no change without sacrifice.

Stand outside waltzing with clouds’  sighs. Someone in heaven was having dinner by candle –watch the flames flicker.

Delicate and temperamental it reacts to the slightest change

Good conversation, deep sighs and heavy breathing.

Join the celebration from earth wrapped in a whirlwind of translucent words.

Lassoe the moon closer to give it a piece of my mind.

( Whispers are heard clearer than shouts)

, then she died. It replied.

When Eve ate the apple she burned the garden down. All the secrets remain buried in her womb.

(It started with a broken heart)

That was the answer.

Turn the world inside out call the core, hot and glowing, the heavens.

I’ve gone to the pyramids and brought Oshun with me.

Instead of the word, this time we are beginning with lights.
