“Hesitation” by Maika Bui

Their words, oppressing me

“Go on, go on.” they say

I stare at their smiling, welcoming faces

My body remains still

A debate starts within

Thoughts twirl around

My mind uses logic

Where my heart uses will

My decision is critical

It shall determine where I stand

I’m either one of them

Or an outsider

The pressure builds

Temperature rises

They await my action

Soon, I must choose
