“Snow” by Kate Hardiman

snow
falls untainted from the sky
silently
blankets the dark quiet earth
rests
undisturbed until the awakening of the world

sun
rises out of the earth as if on marionette strings
shines
on the white expanse
brightly
as if a thousand diamonds were embedded in the drifts

the world
as frozen as the ground
moves
slowly or not at all
people
in homes wake to the mirage of white

snow
falls untainted from the sky
silently
blankets the dark quiet earth
rests
undisturbed until the awakening of the world
