YCA wins 2016 MacArthur Award

YCA wins 2016 MacArthur Award

Young Chicago Authors is excited to share incredible news with you, particularly as we kick off the 2017 Louder Than A Bomb Chicago Youth Poetry Festival. The MacArthur Foundation recently announced the recipients of its 2016 MacArthur Award for Creative and Effective Institutions. YCA was one of only 14 organizations this year to receive this prestigious honor.

The Award has been presented annually since 2006 to organizations across the country and around the world that demonstrate exceptional creativity and effectiveness. According to MacArthur, the Award is not only recognition for past leadership and success but also an investment in the future.

“Our vision has been to strategize a scenario that ensures economic stability for Young Chicago Authors, our education partnerships, weekly programs, and marquee festival. This award sustains our future through a reserve that ensures the long-term health of the organization.” – YCA Executive Director, Rebecca Hunter

YCA will receive a grant of $625,000, which the organization will use to establish an operating reserve and to invest in technology upgrades. These funds provide a foundation that gives YCA the stability to serve young writers for years to come. This grant does not fund operations or programming, so YCA still needs your support!

Thank you for sharing in YCA’s success.
