Mission
YCA’s Education Partnerships bring poetry into more than 50 schools across the city. In partnership with YCA teaching artists, students are exposed to a variety of literary arts content and performance opportunities to support them in their creative endeavors. YCA’s education partnerships focus on meeting the needs of our teacher partners, and may include participation in the Rooted and Radical Youth Poetry Festival, residencies and workshops within the classroom or after school programming, school-based open mics, and other supports. Through our work with schools, Young Chicago Authors seeks to transform the literary experience in partnership with students, educators, and artists by strengthening youth voice. Through the study and practice of multidisciplinary art (hip-hop, poetry, visual art, etc.), participants bridge the gap between social and emotional literacy, critical thinking, and academic success in the classroom and beyond.
Education Partnerships
Young Chicago Authors provides a free literary arts partnership residencies to select Chicago Public Schools to work closely with one YCA teaching artist in a variety of ways.
