Kitchen Table, My Closest Friend
Chima Ikoro
April 9, 2024
This workshop looks at how objects or places that we have consistently interacted with in our lives can become symbolic of so much more than their original function.
Pre-writing:
Make a list of things or places that have always been around you personally. Things that might seem minuscule but have been consistently in your life for a long time. You might say an old dresser or a bus stop bench, for example.
Source Material:
- “Perhaps the World Ends Here” by Joy Harjo
Prompt:
Write a poem that is dedicated to one of the objects from your list and refer to it in the way you might a close friend or a sibling. Speak of it as if you know it.
